C.Y. O'Connor was an Irish man that was born on the 11th of January 1843.
He was the youngest of three boys and had a sister. C.Y. O'Connor was first educated at his aunt's house and then was educated at Waterford Endowed School. He was an engineer to Waterford-Kiklkenny line, gained experience in constructing railways in the South and West of Ireland. C.Y.O'Connor is best known for his work on the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme. The pipeline that he did was perhaps the world's longest water main. It carries water 330 miles(530km) from Perth to Kalgoorlie. C.Y.O'Connor had a good life but sadly he died on the 10th of March in 1902. He was only 59. He died on a beach and the beach is now named after him.There is also a sculpture of him in the water, it was sculptured by Tony Jones. The sculpture is of C.Y. O'Connor on his horse. The sculpture is in the water because he rode his horse into the sea while shooting himself thats how he died. He did it because everyone was criticising his work because it didn't work so he got depressed, affected by neuraglia and insomnia intensified by overwork and nervous exhuation.The construction of Fremantle harbour was one of C.Y.O' Connor's best personal achviement. He had a proposal to build the harbour near the start of Swan River. Work started in 1892 by removing the limestone bar and sand shoals at the entrance of Swan river. Fremantle Harbour was finished in 1903. On May the fourth,1897 the first of the overseas passengers arrived. At the age of 54, he travelled to London to induct the order of St Michael and St George.Hundreds of years have continued using Fremantle harbour for heavy shipping erased his technical judgement. Some of his work included looking after water supplies, working on bridges and locating roads. In 1865 C.Y.O'Connor travelled to New Zealand and was a migrate. He joined Rowland Campion Long undertaking survey contract at Ngahinpouri in the Waipa area in the north island.C.Y.O' Connor had five children Elizabeth, Eva, George Francis, Murtagh and Roderick.He was born in Gravelmount, Castletown on the 11 of January 1847. His educating was home schooled by his aunt. He married a Scottish woman called Sussan Less they raised seven kids, four girls and three boys when he was in New Zealand. C.Y.O' Connor took his own life away, when he was fifty four, he shot himself also riding a horse into the water at Fremantle beach. The beach he rode into the water at was named after him in his memory. . The book ,The Drowner was a fictionalised story of C.Y.O 'Connor death and him building the pipeline. By 1891, O’Connor has got lots of experience from harbour and dock construction after he resigned from his position in Aprilto become the Engineer in Chief.
In April 1891, John Forrest, the premier of Western Australia, offered O’Connor the position of engineer-in-chief.
C.Y. O’Connor is the first Engineer in Chief of the Public Works Department.
In 1880, O’Connor went to Dunedin to become inspecting engineer for South Island. That year he was elected to the Institution of Civil Engineers, London.
O’Connor was lithe and athletic at over six feet(185 cm), was slightly taller than John Forrest. An Australian Elctrol

His constuction, Goldfields water supply is also know as Goldfields pipeline and it runs between Perth and Kalgorrie it could be world's biggest water pipeline.It pumped 330 miles of water to Mount Charlotte.Charles was said as criticism by other workers working on the pipeline and members of the Western Australia parliament. To construct the pipeline it costed two million dollars. He commited suicide before the pipelines where finished. In the 1800s people ate food such as animals brains, small animals including geckos , lizards , and some big animals including kangaroos and koala and fish. Most bush food included berries, roots and nectars. The people could not live in one spot for months like now , because there was not much rain so they travelled lots. If you compare their food to what we eat now there is a big difference. Food was harder to find in Summer months thanwinter months and supplieswere limited is those times.
Food was hard to find and wasn’t easy to cook either in the 1800’s they had to use things from the land or the animals if they didn’t they would have starved. Some of the food they ate was boiled cow brains, boiled chicken with oysters, stewed duck, broiled pigeons and roast guinea fowl. In England in that time some of the traditional foods were Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, Crown of lamb, Lancashire Hotpot, Peppered Gammon, Trout and herb jelly, English shortbread and orange marmalade but that wasn’t sweet.
They did believe in God our Jesus or Mary and Joseph. But they found it hard to. But they still did believe in them. They didn’t think that Jesus is the king of the world but they still think he is very very special.
Back then in the 1843-1902 the religion is so different to now days in the 2000’s. Like in Arran there God is Acumen. But in America and Ireland even Australia and so many more places it is called GOD.
